Open Access? Accessible technologies - travel for all

Transport for Greater Manchester, 2 Piccadilly Place, Piccadilly, Manchester M1 3BG

This event will help local authorities and transport providers understand:
• How to make their services fully accessible to all by making better use of technology
• How to support development of and compliance with future legal requirements in the field of accessibility and equality
• The potential for technology to contribute towards accessibility and equality

The event will aim to identify realistic approaches to delivery of the above within the context of public sector financial constraints.

Attendance will be beneficial for anyone involved in transport service provision who will need to understand the requirements of the Equality Act, the Passenger Rights Regulations, and European directives in practice, including a full understating of the business case. The event will seek to promote good practice from across Europe.

What is IMIG?
The Inclusive Mobility Interest Group (IMIG) facilitates understanding and co-operation between ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) professionals, researchers, implementers and suppliers and disabled and older people and their representative bodies.

IMIG aims to supply independent advice to service providers and technology developers to ensure the continuity of lifestyle and mobility for diabled and older people;  it also aims to support up-to-date government guidance and to disseminate information to end users.

Why are we launching IMIG?
We are holding this launch event to highlight the challenge to government, service providers and technology developers of providing services that are appropriate for disabled and older people.  These challenges include the agiening society, sompliance with anti-discriminatory legislation, the potential of new technologies, and the economic downturn.
