Glasgow City Council plays host to the ITS (UK) Council
Glasgow City Council was a Foundation Member of ITS United Kingdom in 1993 and worked behind the scenes before that date to set up the association. Glasgow have remained strong supporters of ITS (UK) ever since, continuously serving on the Council of ITS (UK) and helping to steer it through the many developments the ITS sector has seen since then.
Glasgow is also an ITS pioneer in UK terms, as an early adopter of ITS for traffic management and for bus services, and latterly in terms of implementing the latest communications technology.
It was therefore a pleasure for fellow ITS (UK) Council Members to visit Glasgow in September for the autumn Council meeting. The City marked the occasion with a Civic Reception in the magnificent City Chambers, a riot of multi-coloured marble which was opened by Queen Victoria in 1888.
The visit was also very appropriate since Glasgow is bidding to host the 2013 ITS in Europe Congress with strong support from ITS (UK).
