ITS United Kingdom's Road User Charging Interest Group takes a trip to Dublin
The ITS (UK) Road User Charging Interest Group met in Dublin during November. ITS (UK) Members Sanef and Egis Projects both have well established tolling installations near Dublin, so the group decided to take the opportunity of visiting these as well as hearing from Irish experts about different aspects of road user charging in Ireland. Delegates heard talks by the Department of Transport and the National Road Authority, and by Avego, Efkon, BetEireflow and Easytrip. The visit to Egis’ control room at the Dublin Port Tunnel, and the Sanef-run M50 toll, were very interesting and only the prospect of missed planes got the UK delegation back to the airport on time.
The ITS (UK) Road User Charging Interest Group has over 200 subscribers, and is led by Andrew Pickford of Transport Technology Consultants and Keith Mortimer of Efkon.
There is currently no Irish ITS association equivalent to ITS United Kingdom, but ITS (UK) is now working with Members IBI and Arup to support Irish ITS professionals who are interested in establishing an ITS organisation.
